LAWRENCE JEAN CARON
Lawrence Jean Caron was born August 10, 1924 in Pain Court, Ontario which is a small town 11 kms. west of Chatham, Ontario or 80 kms. east of Windsor, Ontario. He enlisted in The Royal Canadian Regiment/RCR Infantry to do his duty for his country during WWII. His basic training was in Chatham for 30 days then onto Camp Ipperwash; 117 kms. north of Chatham; for 3 months. Then he and his companions boarded a ship bound for London, England for 3 weeks of training. From there he was mobile again and boarded another that took 11 days and landed at Italy. It was then onward to France, Belgium, Holland/Netherlands, Germany and back to Italy. There in Italy he was wounded in the arm and head. He was later issued The Japanese Battle Patch as he and his battalion were going to the Pacific Theatre and his training was moving to the United States but the war ended before he was deployed. After the war ended he was discharged in London Ontario in 1945. He received the following medals for his tour of duty: The Italy Star, The France & Germany Star, The 1939-1945 Star, The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, & the 1939-1945 War Medal. He was married to Grace Morocco on September 12, 1946 and then moved to Detroit, MI on April 15, 1949. He worked at Chevrolet Gear & Axle for 37 years 9 months before retiring on March 1, 1987. They have a son Paul, & two daughters, Lynn & Lori. He now resides in Plymouth, MI with his wife of 68 years, Grace. Submitted by Gerry Ciurysek |
