Clifford was the only son of Judson Iler and Myrtel Weaver.  Born in Windsor in 1923, then moved to Harrow.  Was involved with baseball, Essex Boys Marching band, and loved to skate.

On Aug 26, 1943 after getting written permission from his parents, Cliff enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy in Windsor at HMCS Recruiting Office.  On Jan. 23, 1944 he was accepted at HMCS HUNTER as an Ordinary Seaman.  After training he was sent to HMCS Naden in B.C. and served on the Quatsino minesweeper among others.  Cliff spent all his navy time out on the West coast.  By Feb 1946 he was sent back to HMCS HUNTER, in Windsor, Ontario where he was Honourably Discharged – Demobilized.

Cliff married D. Joyce Chapman in 1948, built a house in Maidstone, had 4 children, 9 grand daughters and today from this union there are 10 great grandchildren.  Before his marriage he worked as a truck driver and a part-time butcher, then finally got accepted at General Motors Transmission Plant in Windsor and worked there for 38 ½ years.

Cliff joined the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 201 in 1960 and stayed active till the end of his days. He was one of the founding fathers of minor hockey in Essex in 1961-62, one of the many volunteers who helped build the Essex Memorial Arena. He was a referee for both minor hockey and the girls Blue Angels.  Cliff Iler was Commander of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 201 Essex, Colour Guard from 1980 to 1995, and worked in the kitchen until 1999. Cliff continued to be involved as much as his health would let him on Remembrance Day.  Cliff died Feb 2, 2012 at the age of 87.
